If you’ve already started planning your wedding, you probably already know that it’s going to be expensive. Very expensive. While you definitely don’t want to sell yourself short, there are certain ways to cut costs while still having a great time. Remember that half the fun is having everyone you love together in one place. So, how can you make the most out of that? Here are some tips:

Listen to the Music

You’ve never really lived until you’ve torn up the dance floor at a wedding. I’m talking about embarrassing dance moves, nostalgic music, and plenty of laughs. It’s especially fun when you can get your grandparents and siblings out on the floor and get everyone together. In fact, a study from UC Berkeley claims that music affects deep, emotional parts of our brains and releases dopamine There’s no need to worry about awkward small talk. The only thing that should be on everyone’s minds is how much fun they’re having!

Make it Unique

The most important thing you can do to make your day special is to make it unique. What makes you and your future spouse? You most likely have a few funny stories together or special memories that you can share with everyone else. Did you meet in a certain city? Or do you love the same movie? There are tons of affordable ways to have a really unique wedding. Make your special day memorable with fun touches, like wedding confetti sticks, have fun with a smoke machine on the dance floor, or, if you’re really brave, a karaoke machine!

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Everybody knows someone that gets cranky if they haven’t eaten for a while. In fact, you probably know several people – you might even be one yourself. That’s why it’s important that you have plenty of food available so that people can stay fed and happy all throughout the celebration. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. In fact, there are plenty of great DIY guides online for how to make even the most basic food look elegant.

For many weddings, alcohol also tends to be among the biggest budget items. The price tag might make you second guess, but what great wedding doesn’t have copious amounts of alcohol? While alcohol isn’t essential, it can help people relax and enjoy the special moment a bit more. Conversations start to flow a little easier, new friendships are made, and more. For a fun twist, choose a signature cocktail for both the bridge and the groom and let your guests decide!

Get in the Game

Let’s face it: your wedding is not going to go as smoothly as you perfectly envision it. It never does, and the sooner you accept that, the less stressed you’ll be and the more you’ll enjoy it. There will be traffic that slows people down, bad weather, and more. If you’re having an outdoor reception,  a great way to prevent people from getting antsy while waiting around is to have a few lawn games spread throughout the area.

Games like ladder ball, corn hole, bocce ball, or a giant Jenga set are very affordable and can keep guests entertained for longer than you’d imagine. Plus, they’re easy to transport and to set up. While you want the day to be special and formal, don’t be afraid to let loose!

No matter what you do, just remember to have a great time. It’s truly a special day, and it’s going to go by faster than you can imagine. If you plan it well and remember to have fun, you’ll have nothing to worry about. Get started and enjoy!
