On November 6, Strange Cargo/Manhattan Records will release Swedish recording artist Anna Bergendahl’s U.S.debut, Something To Believe In.

The album pre-order is available on iTunes and  Google Play. Fans who pre-order Something To Believe In digitally will instantly receive the album’s deeply romantic first single, “For You.” See below for track listing.

VEVO recently premiered a video of Bergendahl performing an intimate, acoustic version of “For You.” The clip can be viewed HERE and the lyric video for the single can be viewed HERE. The swirling Broiler remix of “For You,” helmed by Norwegian duo Simen and Mikkel, has already gone Platinum in Scandinavia. It can be streamed HERE.

Bergendahl will play her first-ever U.S. shows this fall. Upcoming performances include a November 12 headline show at New York City’s Rockwood Stage and a series of dates with Lera Lynn. See below for itinerary.

“I fell in love with music when I was 5. I was listening to Tracy Chapman’s first record, songs like ‘Fast Car’ and ‘Talkin’ ’bout A Revolution,’ and I just knew: One day I’ll be doing what Tracy Chapman is doing. I didn’t have a doubt in my mind,” recalls Bergendahl.

So it was a dream come true when GRAMMY®-winning producer Larry Klein  – who, in addition to producing such legends as Joni Mitchell, Don Henley and Herbie Hancock, also helmed Tracy Chapman’s 2008 album, Our Bright Future, and played on several of her other albums, including her debut – invited Bergendahl to come to the U.S. after hearing her demos.

“I was immediately drawn to her voice,” says Larry Klein, who produced most of the songs on Something To Believe In.

Over the course of a year, Bergendahl and Klein crafted the album from their conversations about life. “We would meet around 10 in the morning and talk for an hour about all these interesting things,” Bergendahl recalls. “Then Larry would either pick up a guitar or sit by the piano and I would start singing on top of that, creating a melody. Sometimes he would sing with me and sometimes, he would just let me float away to wherever I was going.”

What spilled out of Bergendahl were tales of joy and heartbreak, loneliness and vulnerability. On the stomping rave-up “I Don’t Know,” she confesses her confusion about a relationship while “A Good Day” delicately captures a bittersweet parting. The upbeat, lilting “Fun,” which playfully invokes Swedish icons director Ingmar Bergman and author August Strindberg, celebrates the virtues of lightening up and the evocative title suggests that a spark of hope can be found in even the darkest moments. The album was recorded in Los Angeles at historic Henson Studios.

For the past four years, Bergendahl has served as Goodwill Ambassador for the Swedish United Nations Association. She works on campaigns that support girls’ rights in developing countries, to end child marriages and female genital mutilation and to promote education.

“This world is crazy and we all need to do what we can to make it less crazy,” she says. “We all need something to believe in.”
