We are delighted to welcome R&B singer/songwriter Eliza Lee to Divine Magazine. Having worked with the likes of Phillip White (Snoop dog, JoJo) Mika Lett (P. Diddy, Avril Lavigne, Macy Gray), Eliza is an artist to get on your radar.  Eliza has written a catchy, flirty bop called ‘Boo’ which is her debut track inspired by a long-distance relationship. The track was produced with Brian Watters and two-time Grammy-nominated Masa Takumi (Trey Songz, Da Pump) and is perfect for fans of Ariana Grande and Camila Cabello. This beautiful vocal track brings an uplifting light into these uncertain times and is sure to be a hit in the sunshine.

Hello Eliza and welcome to Divine! We hope you have been keeping safe and sane during this unusual time.

As usual, we like to warm our interviewees up so here is some silly fun stuff first

Tell us what your ideal partner might look like if you could order one from ‘Partners R Us’.

What a question! Someone funny who just keeps me laughing all the time. And if they look like Timothee Chalamet that wouldn’t hurt either.

If you could be a superhero, what would your superpower be and your superhero name?

I would go with time travel. My name would be Rewind Girl

What was the last thing you dressed up as for fancy dress?

I think it was Scary Spice (Mel B) for a 90s themed party.

You are a new addition to a crayon box. What color would you be and why?

Maybe yellow because it’s bright and fun but doesn’t suit everyone.

What would be the ideal food to have cooked for you on a date night?

A seafood pasta or risotto and anything chocolate for dessert.

What would be a good theme song for your life?

“You Gotta Be” by Des’ree

And now to the more serious ones…

Boo’ was inspired by a long-distance relationship we have been told. Do you think writing from personal experience is the best thought process?

Absolutely. The best art is authentic in my opinion, but also if it’s a real-life experience it can make for a very therapeutic writing process. Sometimes I do exaggerate the truth or heighten the emotion of a specific moment for the song. It can also be fun to manifest through a song, writing about something that you wish to happen in your life.

What was it like working with some of the biggest names in the industry and have they influenced the way you make your music?

It was great! I feel really lucky to work with such talented people. Everyone has a unique writing process, so I love collaborating with people that inspire me to develop my sound and experiment more. I’ve definitely picked up a few tips in the studio over the past year.

You have another single coming out on May 22nd. Can you give us any more details about this?

My next single is called “26 6’2” and I can’t wait to release it. It’s more of a chill, sexy RnB track about being instantly drawn to someone. It was fun to explore an element of mystery with this one and I really hope people like it.

What lead you to become a music artist and what advice can you give to others aspiring to make a hit?

I’ve always loved songwriting for as long as I can remember and began taking it more seriously over the past few years! Initially, it was a Mosley Music Group manager who discovered me on Instagram and introduced me to a lot of producers in LA. Once I started working in the studio more, I realized how badly I wanted it! My advice for anyone else would just be to make art that feels authentic and true to who you are as an artist.

What two artists have defined your music taste and who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

So many artists influence me. At the moment I would say Charli XCX and Frank Ocean. I would also love to collaborate with Mark Ronson one day. That would be a dream.

What can we expect from you in the future?

A debut EP in the not too distant future and hopefully more live shows once COVID 19 has settled. Thanks for having me!
