Getting to know Lexi
Do you sing in the shower? What songs?
Our bathroom is downstairs, away from the bedrooms, and I’ve literally woken my family up at night by singing so loudly in the shower. Haha! It’s always Taylor Swift songs!
What was the last TV series you watched on TV?
I recently finished binge-watching all four seasons of Degrassi: Next Class on Netflix. Now I’m just back to watching The Bachelorette.
If you could learn any language fluently what would it be?
I’d love to learn more Italian. My family is Sicilian and quite a few of them speak Italian. I took a few years of it as my foreign language class in high school, but I didn’t learn nearly as much as I wanted to. It’s something I’d love to study in the future when I have some spare time.
What’s your favorite board game?
Not necessarily a board game, but Cards Against Humanity is literally ALWAYS a fun time!
If you were talking to a younger version of yourself, what advice would you give yourself?
I’d definitely tell younger me that she needs to stop procrastinating. I’d also tell her to stop always looking forward so much. Just enjoy the present moment instead and really take in everything and everyone that’s around you.
What is “Playlist” about?
“Playlist” is about reminiscing when you listen back to an old playlist that reminds you of a certain person, or a certain time in your life. There are so many songs that can sometimes be a little hard for me to listen to because they bring back such vivid memories of people that I miss, people that hurt me, or times that I miss. Music is so powerful in friendships and relationships, and I wanted to capture that in the song.
What’s the best advice you’ve been given?
I had the opportunity to video chat with Cher Lloyd a few months back, which was literally like a dream come true for me. She’s been my biggest inspiration throughout my career so far and she basically told me that there should never be a need to make a “plan B” because you have to make “plan A” work. That meant so much coming from her because I’ve really never had a backup plan, even though a lot of people would always try to push me to come up with one when I first decided that I wanted to seriously pursue music. Having the person that you look up to most give you advice is really special, and knowing that she believes in me gives me that extra motivation when I need it.
If we were to look at the artists you are listening to, who would be on your playlist?
You’ll find a lot of pop artists like Taylor Swift, Bebe Rexha, some Tones & I, Tove Lo, but also some classic rock mixed in like Guns N’ Roses and Fleetwood Mac.
Do you have any other plans relating to this release?
There’s an acoustic version of “Playlist” that will be coming out! There’s also going to be a lyric video. Nothing else is really set in stone for this release, but there are definitely more possibilities as the next couple of weeks go on!
Would you have any advice for would-be artists or songwriters wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Absolutely! Some advice for other artists wanting to pursue this career would be to keep working through every “no”. It’s a word you’re going to hear a lot of in this industry. It can get frustrating, but you have to learn to just not take it personally. Music is totally subjective, and there are always going to be some people who don’t like you.
How do you deal with writer’s block?
For me personally, the best way to deal with it is to just take a break from that specific idea and come back to it another time. An idea might not work in the moment, but it could work in the future. I’ve learned it’s okay to let some ideas go though, if you’re really not feeling inspired by them. I literally still have some unfinished songs from 5 or 6 years ago just because I moved on from the concepts and never felt inspired by them again.
