Scott the Pisces has been a music lover his whole life. From the early age of 8 when he first picked up a guitar, the young muse decided to dedicate his time to studying the craft vigourously. Now at the age of 23, he’s began to show the world the fruits of his efforts – the incredibly talented producer and songwriter he’s become.

Scott’s songwriting starts with production; he taught himself to produce music very early on, making music from the comfort of his bedroom. When it’s time to get to writing lyrics, he prefers standing by the microphone and recording all the melodies that come to him while playing the instrumental on loop. Later replacing the melodies with words. He states that he picked up this method of writing from watching his idols, notably Timbaland, in the studio in various Hip-Hop documentaries that were floating about in the early 2000s. Although his primary sound is Pop, his love for classic Hip Hop and R&B runs deep within him. He claims his work ethic stems from the admiration of artists like Dr Dre, Kanye West & Tupac.

Getting to know Scott the Pisces

If you had to describe yourself as a flavour, what would it be?
Coconut & Vanilla

If you could ask your future self, one question, what would it be?
How much did that beach house cost ya?

If you were captain of a ship, what would you call it?
Prometheus, because we’ll be dropping pure fire everywhere we go (haha)

What is your creative process like?
If I’m inspired, I’ll typically start by creating an instrumental hook, I like starting from the climax of a song and working backwards. That way you know whether the basis of what you have is great, or absolute trash.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t on this planet early enough; I would have loved to work with Aaliyah during her time here.
I’d love to be in the room with Kanye at least once in my life, just to see a living musical genius operating is the ultimate dream. Same applies to Pharrell.

If you could see one show live, what would it be?
Without a doubt, it would be Dr Dre’s Up In The Smoke Tour 2000. I recommend everyone go and watch the video they put out for it.

Did you find the isolation of the pandemic conducive to your writing or was it hindering the experiences you can write about?
Honestly it was probably the break from society I needed. It gave me the time I needed to evaluate where I was in life, the steps I needed to take, as well as delve into deeper issues within myself. Of course, with the free time came plenty of opportunity to create music. It’s part of the reason why I’ve been able to release 6 songs this year alone. It showed me that everything in life is temporary, and there is no certainty in any of it.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
Treat advances as actual loans without Tax. When a major label gives out an advance to an artist, lets say it’s a million, that artist then pays upwards of 40% tax on that advance. This means they only end up with 600,000. They’re then expected to pay the record label back that full one million, more than likely with tax covered. It’s a flawed system rigged against the artist.

What are your ambitions as a songwriter and musician from here?
I’d like to continue my journey songwriting to hopefully work with some of the best in the business. I really want to write hits for and with major artists, along with releasing my own music. The small dream is to become self-sustainable purely from music royalties, and the big dream is to do everything in career success that most would consider impossible.

On July 2nd, Scott the Pisces released his new single “Crazy About You” featuring RAENE. The single is the first follow up from his debut EP “Ocean Blue” which came out in March of this year. The song is nostalgically pop, with the essence of summer blossoming through.
