Born into a theatrical family in the north of England, Luna Bec began making music aged 7 and composed her first film score at 16. A multi-instrumentalist, her music has taken a journey of many turns through jazz, funk, and folk. With a unique blend of vulnerability and directness, her songs explore the human condition from the intimate to the universal.
Her voice has a timeless quality that is equally contemporary, and her passion for social and environmental justice often finds its way into her music. Early influences drew from the folk-rock tradition of Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, as well as jazz legends Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone.
Her first single “Over,” released in June 2019, is an honest and intimate expression of personal grief following a period of multiple losses in her life. It was described by Get Into This magazine as “relatable and inspirational” and by She Makes Music as “the beginning of a bright future for this truly great singer-songwriter.”
Luna’s second single “Power To Change,” is an uplifting and haunting call to arms on the theme of the climate crisis, the result of a collaboration with indie filmmaker Hardy D Saleh.

Luna says: “Hardy contacted me about the video and asked if I would write a song for it. It was an easy decision for me since it’s a movement I am already much engaged with. He filmed the youth march in central London and sent me interview clips with those taking part. It was incredibly moving to hear these children expressing their passion for the planet. A song was put together in just one day.
The response of our government, national institutions and large corporations clearly does not reflect the gravity of this situation. Hardy titled the film “Our House Is On Fire,” after a quote from Greta Thunberg. I wanted to capture in the song both the intense urgency of this global crisis as well as the possibility we still have to turn
things around, and the efforts of young people all over the world to make this change happen.”
The “Uninhabitable Land” t-shirt Luna is wearing in the single’s cover art is by Vivienne Westwood, herself an outspoken climate change activist. In her words:
“The revolution has already begun. The fact of man-made climate change is accepted by most people. Through every walk of life, people are changing their values and their behaviour. This continues to build the revolution. The map is the best thing I’ve ever done – it is a graphic representation of NASA’s geothermal map on climate change. Global warming is at the tipping point. If we go past it, we can’t stop it. All the methane kicks in. We’re there right now. This map is the world at five degrees [higher]. If you draw a line parallel with Paris, everything below that is uninhabitable. This means, by the end of this century, there will only be 1 billion people left. Our politicians are preparing for this. They are not trying to stop it, they are preparing for it.”
