The Spikes, the artistic alter ego of multidisciplinary creator Iago Haussman, has released his gripping new single, “Guns for the Children,” now available to shock your system on all streaming platforms. Accompanied by a stark, black-and-white music video. The track delivers a chilling reflection on violence, lost innocence, and the cry for help falling on deaf ears. It’s the dark societal patterns that pass down death sentences to future generations.

Based in the U.S., Iago’s work is shaped by both his European roots and his firsthand experiences living in America. “Guns for the Children” doesn’t come from a place of judgment—it’s born from heartbreak, disbelief, and the desire to spark reflection in a country he calls home. “When I moved to the U.S., I was stunned by how normalized gun violence had become—especially school shootings,” says Iago. “One day I was in Walmart and noticed the toy aisle was literally two feet from the gun section. That moment stayed with me. This song came from a place of disbelief, sarcasm, and frustration—because what else do you do when something so dark becomes part of the everyday?”

These statistics are rising faster than a bullet. Since 2020, firearms have been the leading cause of death for children and teens in the U.S., surpassing motor vehicle accidents. In 2023, nearly 3,500 young lives were lost to gun-related incidents—a 50% increase since 2019. With about 5 deaths per 100,000 children, this rate far exceeds that of other developed nations. These tragic deaths—unintentional, homicidal, and suicidal—highlight a critical public health crisis demanding urgent action.

Filmed in Rome, the visually arresting video mirrors the track’s raw, stripped-down sound, delivering brutal imagery like a shot between the eyes within the first 10 seconds. The haunting lyrics are heavy on the heart in the lead weight monochromatic world Iago paints for us. No filters, no distractions—just a stark lens burning into the cultural amnesia and complacency.

“I wanted it to feel like a funeral and a warning,” Iago explains. “We’ve created a world where we pass trauma down like tradition. This song asks what happens if we don’t stop.”

“Guns for the Children” serves as a powerful standalone release that sets the tone for what’s to come. The upcoming 2026 album will be a bold and unflinching exploration of generational trauma, fractured identities, and the urgent need for cultural reckoning—driven by Iago’s signature blend of punk spirit, poetic lyricism, and cinematic visual storytelling.

Iago Haussman, who is also an accomplished singer, songwriter, author, and poet who brings a rare multi-dimensional intensity to his work. Each project under The Spikes becomes a creative protest—unafraid to provoke, confront, and unravel social taboos.

“Songwriting is rarely clean or controlled for me,” says Iago. “It’s chaos, confusion, catharsis—sometimes all at once. I never try to force a song. When I sing, it’s my way of making sense of the world, or at least screaming back at it.”

With nearly 20,000 views and climbing, the music video for “Guns for the Children”—a cut from a broken mirror on America’s unhealed wound—is already gaining traction for its fearless storytelling, unapologetic poetic justice, and minimalist direction. The response has been powerful, with fans calling the track “a punch in the gut,” humanity demands, and “the kind of protest song we need right now.”

About The Spikes

Iago Haussman, known professionally as The Spikes, is a genre-defying singer-songwriter, poet, and painter. Born and raised in Rome, Itay, fluent in Italian, Iago brings a cinematic sensibility to his work, shaped by a childhood spent on film sets and a lifelong immersion in the arts.

The Spikes’ debut self-titled EP introduced listeners to his minimalist yet emotionally charged sound. His breakout single, “Guns for the Children”—a stark meditation on violence and lost innocence—releasing on June 6, 2025, quickly gaining traction, with the accompanying music video nearing 20,000 views on YouTube.

More than a music project, The Spikes is an evolving artistic identity. Iago’s multidisciplinary work—across music, visual art, and literature—reflects a cohesive aesthetic that is poetic, unflinching, and deeply human. He has exhibited paintings in galleries and is preparing to release his second book of poetry with select pieces performed at live readings, and co-founded the punk band Delicate Prey at age 16.

Splitting his time between New York and Berlin, The Spikes will release new singles throughout summer 2025, leading up to his full-length album, slated for release in 2026.
