Alabama native and 18-year old emerging artist Peyton Gilliland have just released her latest single “Not Bothered.” Showcasing her smooth vocal and rock influences, she co-wrote the song with Hannah Arn and John Salaway.
Gilliland shares, “‘Not Bothered’ is the perfect post break up anthem. It’s about the kind of ex that constantly tries to make you jealous and it basically means ‘It’s pathetic that you’re acting out to get my attention because I don’t care anymore,’” noting, “It’s my first rock song but it’s definitely not the last!”
Produced by Lincoln Parish, co-founder of Cage the Elephant, the pair are currently in the studio working on Gilliland’s debut album.
“Peyton is a diverse artist. She can pull you in and captivate you with a ballad as equally as she can a hard rocker.” Adding, “Her growth from when we first started working together has been immense and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.”
Considering Parish a mentor, she also credits his former band as one of her biggest influences growing up, along with the likes of Alabama Shakes, Arctic Monkeys, and powerhouse singers like Adele and Amy Winehouse.
Currently traveling between Nashville and her hometown, this latest single follows “Empty,” both of which express her self-assured nature and steady vocals that originate from a confident lower register and easily climb to powerful controlled belts. At only 18, Gilliland graduated high school last month having already amassed nearly 100,000 followers, celebrating multiple songs on the Digital Radio Tracker charts, while also recently earning a semi-finalist spot for the International Songwriters competition amongst more than 25,000 entries. Her forthcoming debut album is expected next year, with select shows throughout the summer.
