Ray LeVier's Wig Glue

Ray LeVier’s “Wig Glue” is a powerful and heartfelt tribute to the indomitable spirit of legendary guitarist Mike Stern.

The story behind “Wig Glue” adds a layer of depth and inspiration to the music. It was born out of Stern’s search for a solution to regain his grip on the guitar pick after an accident left him unable to play the same. During a conversation with fellow musician Etienne Stadwijk, he discovered an unconventional remedy in the form of wig glue. This led him to connect with LeVier, who was already using the same method to enhance his drumstick grip due to his own accident. This serendipitous encounter sparked a bond between the two musicians and was the inspiration to creating this dynamic track.

LeVier’s rhythmic prowess takes center stage in “Wig Glue,” as he drives the groove with precision and flair. The mix of funk, jazz, and fusion elements creates an infectious and captivating sound that grabs the listener’s attention from the first beat. The track pulsates with energy and showcases Levier’s ability to deliver captivating musical moments.

Joining LeVier in this musical journey are esteemed bassist Will Lee, keyboardist Etienne Stadwijk, and guitarist Mike Stern, all of whom are highly respected figures in the industry.  Stadwijk’s impressive discography includes collaborations with renowned artists such as Richard Bona, Sadao Watanabe, Paul Simon, and Maxwell, among many others. Stern’s notable contributions to jazz and fusion can be traced back to his time with Miles Davis, Steps Ahead, and The Brecker Brothers, solidifying his status as a guitar virtuoso. Lee is most recognizable from ‘Late Night with David Letterman’ and collaborations with acclaimed figures such as George Benson and The Brecker Brothers as well as his Beatles tribute band Fab Faux.

“Wig Glue” embodies the spirit of perseverance and the idea that, even in the face of adversity, one can glue the broken pieces together and continue moving forward. It’s a testament to the power of music to inspire and uplift. It serves as a tribute to the unbreakable bonds and mutual support within the music community, encapsulating the resilience and determination of both Ray Levier and Mike Stern.

I fell in love with music when I first picked up a guitar at age 8. When I played, my friends and family would smile and spill with joy over the music I played, even though it was never Grammy quality. While my music career never made it past high school, my love for music never waivered. I loved the feeling of bringing a smile to someone's face through music and wanted to keep that passion going. So, I took it upon myself to continue to support and promote artists by writing about their music. This way, I can support my personal passion for music and bring entertain and joy to others through music.  Outside my love for music, I do enjoy a good hike and being in the outdoors. My favorite place that I've hiked is in Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. I love to travel too. I've been to Costa Rica, Vancouver, BC, and England, but the best place by far is Germany on Oktoberfest. I liken that experience to being in New Orleans on Mardi Gras. I like a good book now and then, but I'm more of a streaming fiend. I live for crime docuseries on Netflix, veterinary shows on National Geographic, and re-watching Scrubs on Hulu.
