We all have something that inspires us to do our best at whatever we do. For example, students see their parents as someone who inspires them to do better in their studies because they want to give back to them after graduating.

The desire to provide for their families is another example of what motivates workers. Incentives are also a way that employers can inspire their staff to do their best on an assigned task.

Whatever inspires us keeps us motivated to achieve what is expected of us, may it be in school or the workplace.

Motivation makes a person strive for success. Without motivation, they would not be inspired enough to do their best. Motivation keeps them happy and allows them to perform to the best of their capabilities.

This is especially true in a team because you need to keep your teammates motivated and inspired so they can contribute to achieving the team’s goals. Success is the result of motivation.

How does motivation contribute to success? Let us find out.

Motivation Enhances Self Confidence

Success is all about taking risks. You need confidence so that you can move out of your comfort zone. If you are motivated, you feel more confident about the things that you can do and would be brave enough to conquer what you weren’t able to conquer before.

For example, suppose you want to propose a project to the management that can help increase the sales of your department. If you lack confidence, you will not be able to voice your opinions. The project you have may help your team achieve the success it wants in achieving its goals.

Another thing is that you want to start a personal business, and your motivation is your family. If you do not have confidence that the business will go well, then it will not go well. This is because you need to trust and have confidence in your skills and strengths so that the business you want will be successful.

The Hierarchy of Needs and Motivation for Success

If you are not familiar with the hierarchy of needs, it is a theory by Abraham Maslow. According to theory, a human has five basic needs. Those needs are physiological, safety, social, esteem, and self-actualization.

How is this related to motivation? The hierarchy of needs suggests that we humans are motivated to satisfy the 5 basic needs. We strive to meet these needs, starting with the lowest in the hierarchy.

We can apply it to the workplace, starting with the lowest person in the hierarchy, as one of the ways of motivating people. Humans have basic physiological survival needs. In this context, employees need their salaries to buy everything they need to survive.

The main motivation of humans is to survive, and their salaries would be the instrument in achieving that. For example, an employee would be motivated to work harder to be promoted because you get a higher salary when you get promoted.

The other needs would now follow from this. Once they have fulfilled the lowest level in the hierarchy, they would now proceed to the next level, which is security needs. In this way, employees can get pensions and other things like insurance to ensure their environment is secure and stable.

When employees start to get along and work well together, they can start to meet needs like a sense of belonging. On the other hand, esteem must focus on the person’s confidence, such as workplace recognition. Lastly, the highest in the hierarchy is self-actualization, which is fulfilled when the employee is challenged and not stagnant with work.

Motivation as a Way to Be More Time Efficient

Time efficiency is one of the key elements of motivation and success. This is because when you are motivated, you are more inspired to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

When you are striving to be successful, it comes with a lot of tasks and responsibilities. For you to achieve the goal, you should not miss any tasks needed for the completion of your goal.

When you complete your tasks and responsibilities without delay, you become closer to your goal.

Lastly, being time efficient can lessen stress, which can contribute to a member’s productivity. If one member is stressed, they will not be able to function properly.

When you are time-efficient, you feel more in control and have a concrete time frame for the task you are about to do. Less stress and increased productivity are the secrets to motivation and success.

Performance Can Be Improved Through Motivation

The performance of the team sets it up for success. This is because when your team is motivated, they are more productive. They are inspired to work, and the deadlines you set can be met.

There are a lot of ways to motivate your staff to boost performance. You can boost their productivity by giving them rewards and making use of their likes and interests.

In reward-giving, employees would be more motivated to complete a project if they were given incentives. For example, everyone would be given a shopping voucher if the project is deemed successful.

Utilizing your teams’ likes and interests, you can assign the person tasks that they like to do. For example, you can assign a person to do a site visit for a project if they are a traveler and an adventurer. That way, they would be happier and more motivated to complete the task given.

Wrapping It Up

Motivation is the key to success. This is because when you are motivated, the task that you have feels lighter, and you are happy with what you are doing.

In a team, motivation is vital, especially for its members. This is because when the members are motivated, they will be more productive, thus ensuring that the goals of the team will be achieved.

There are a lot of ways you could motivate a team. You can motivate them by rewarding them or by incorporating their likes and interests into the tasks you give them.

The path to success is rough, and everyone is aware of that. There would be lots of hurdles along the way, which is why it is important to keep your team motivated at all times.

The aforementioned reasons are only one of the reasons why motivation is important in a team. With the right motivation, performance tracking, communication, and engagement within the team, no goal is impossible.
